Display - Sanyo Epson to Produce More LCD Panels in China
November 17, 2004
Sanyo Epson will be moving part of its Japan-based color LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel production to Suzhou. The capacity transplanted to Suzhou will focus on CSTN (Color Super Twist Nematic) panel production, to be used mainly for exported mobile handsets. After the realignment, the Nagano plant's remaining capacity is to center on the higher-end production of TFD (Thin-Film Diode) panels.

The transfer will yield three lines in China: two in Suzhou and one in Shenzhen. Combined with Sanyo Epson's line in the Philippines, this move will generate annual panel capacity of 110 million units, up from a little under 100 million units, according to the company.
